Gender reveal parties are becoming all the rage these days! Whether it's balloons bursting with colour, cakes hiding blue or pink sponge, or confetti cannons making a grand announcement, more and more parents-to-be are choosing to celebrate their baby's gender in creative, unforgettable ways. In fact, some are even opting for a gender reveal over a traditional baby shower. It’s a fun excuse to get everyone together, share in the excitement, and of course, snap a few Instagram-worthy moments that you will want to remember.
But if you’ve been invited to a gender reveal party and find yourself wondering what to bring (aside from your lovely self), don’t worry. While gifts are by no means required, most expectant parents are just happy to have your company; it’s always a nice gesture if you want to bring a little something.
Not sure what’s appropriate? We’ve got you covered.
1. Gender-Neutral Baby Gifts
Since the whole point of the party is to reveal the gender, avoid bringing gender-specific gifts beforehand. Think cuddly soft toys, muslin cloths, bibs, baby blankets, or unisex onesies in colours like white, grey, yellow or green. You could even opt for practical gender neutral gifts such as bedding (crib basket sheets, blankets etc) as you can never have too many of these! These are practical and appreciated without jumping the gun on the big reveal!
2. Gifts for the Parents
A lot of focus goes to baby gifts, but don't forget the parents-to-be! Treat them to a pamper set, a date night gift voucher, or a funny parenting book. They’ll definitely appreciate something that reminds them to enjoy some adult time before the little one arrives. You could even treat them to a few takeaway vouchers so they don't have to worry about cooking when baby arrives, it's a practical gift they will definitely be grateful for after a few sleepless nights!
3. Memory Keepsakes
Capture the magic with a keepsake gift like a pregnancy journal, milestone cards, or a custom photo frame for their ultrasound picture. These kinds of gifts are thoughtful and can become treasured mementoes. Another keepsake is a baby book that they can fill in as the baby gets older, adding their own photos etc.
4. Something for the Reveal
If you’re close to the parents and want to contribute to the fun, ask if they need help with the reveal setup. You could bring along balloons, cupcakes, or even a confetti popper. Just make sure it’s all cleared with the host beforehand—no spoiler alerts! This is especially a good idea if they have asked for no gifts, that way you still feel like you are helping them out whilst sticking to the no gift rule.
5. A Touch of Humour
Know the parents well? A cheeky gift like a bib that says "I drink until I pass out" or a baby grow with a funny quote can add some laughs to the party. Just make sure it matches their sense of humour! You could even get something with their last name on it (if you know for sure the baby will take a certain last name) this way its personalised without having to know the gender!
Remember, the most important thing is your presence and support. Gender reveal parties are about celebrating a new chapter and sharing joy with loved ones. A gift is simply the cherry on top!
