Looking after the whole families teeth with Aquafresh.

*Advertisement Feature*

We all know just how important it is to keep our teeth healthy, after all you only get one set as an adult. But the importance of brushing your teeth starts as a baby when that first little baby tooth starts poking through.

We have always spoke to both James and Evelyn about the importance of looking after and cleaning their teeth properly and we have been visiting the dentist since they were both 6 months old. Most parents will relate to how much of a struggle it can be though to make sure our children's teeth are cleaned properly, especially when they are trying to run off or refusing to open their mouth! That's why it’s so important to make brushing their teeth fun, and ensuring we are using the right products!

Aquafresh have a fantastic range of products and advice for every age from those first baby milk teeth right up to adult teeth with a toothbrush and toothpaste to suit the different stages we go through with our teeth. Its so important that we are using the right products for the stages of our teeth and Aquafresh products are easily and clearly labelled to make picking the right products quick and easy.

The products we have been using are -

Evelyn - Little Teeth designed for children aged 3-5 years.

Aquafresh Little Teeth toothpaste is specially designed by dental experts for toddlers aged 3 to 5 years. It provides gentle care with low abrasion and the benefit of Sugar Acid Protection, provided by fluoride. This strengthens and actively defends little teeth against everyday sugars. It contains 1450ppm fluoride level and has a mild minty flavour that isn't too overpowering for younger children. Evelyn has had no problems using this tooth paste and can be quite fussy when it comes to the taste of minty toothpaste.

James - Advance designed for children aged 9-12 years.

More permanent teeth arrive between ages 9-12 than at any other time. These new teeth are 50% more vulnerable because they can take up to 3 years to reach full strength and are left exposed to problems within the mouth. The Aquafresh Advance range provides expert care and protection for stronger permanent teeth.

The Advance toothpaste delivers the right amount of fluoride to the enamel and its low abrasive formula provides key benefits that are key to help strengthen developing teeth which include cavity prevention, enamel protection, healthy gums, fights plaque, gentle on teeth, cleans in gaps and spaces.

Myself - Medium adult tooth brush + the Fresh and Minty toothpaste.

I spend so much time worrying about the kids teeth I often forget about my own! However Aquafresh have a great range for adults too.

The Aquafresh triple protection fresh and minty toothpaste can be used by children aged 12 and over including adults. It has 24hr Sugar Acid Protection provided by fluoride that creates a shield to help protect the tooth surface against sugar acid attack. Its triple action protection freshens breath and helps to maintain strong teeth and healthy gums. It has a stronger minty flavour that leaves your mouth feeling really refreshed and clean.

But of course when it comes to brushing our children's teeth it's not just as simple as having the correct products, its ensuring they are brushing correctly too! The recommended time for brushing your teeth is 2 minutes, that's for adults and children. Now 2 minutes doesn't sound that long right... but when you are dealing with a toddler who has clamped their mouth shut tighter than an alligator and has the moves of a snake slithering across your bathroom floor, 2 minutes suddenly feels like a REALLY long time!

However Aquafresh has a fun app that encourages children to clean their teeth with
Captain Aquafresh and the Nurdles. The app is free and has a timer that counts down the two minutes whilst children dance, sing and laugh their way through brush time without even realising they have been brushing for two minutes! You can download the app here, it is available on both android and apple.

Here are some top tips for making sure you are brushing effectively and making brush time fun!

- Children under the age of 6 should be supervised and given a hand when brushing their teeth. James is 9 and whilst he brushes his own teeth I still have a quick brush afterwards to make sure he has reached all of the little nooks and reached right to the back.

- Make sure you are using the correct product for the job! Aquafresh has ranges right from baby teeth (0-2 years) right through to their adult range. There is a brush and paste designed for each stage to ensure we are getting the correct amount of protection and fluoride etc for our teeth and their changing stages.

- Remind children to spit out any toothpaste from their mouth and don't let them swallow it. Swallowing a lot of excess toothpaste can cause tummy upset especially in younger children.

- Make brushing children's teeth fun and not a daunting task. We play lots of games such as pretending to be animals that roar (which encourages them to open their mouths nice and wide) or let them brush your teeth whilst you brush theirs provides a great distraction. There is also the Aquafresh Brush Time app which James and Evelyn love! They dance and sing their way through the recommended two minutes of brushing and love getting to choose a character to brush with each morning and evening.

- Ensure you are using the correct amount of toothpaste depending on your child's age, under 3 years should use a small smear of toothpaste and children over 3 years old should use a pea sized amount of toothpaste.

  2. It's brilliant to encourage good brushing while they are young, so that, by the time they are old enough to protest, the habit is already ingrained!
