The Benefits of Keeping Your Home Tidy & Clean

 **Collaborative Post**

AD: It's challenging to set priorities in today's fast-paced world when everyone seems to be always on the go. It's safe to say that when your professional life and other duties (especially if you are a parent) keep you so busy, a lot of essential things in your life, such as getting your health checked and spending more time with family and friends, are put on the back burner. Unfortunately, the same can be said for keeping a tidy home as the tidying can often feel like a never-ending cycle that always needs something doing.

Some homeowners believe a clean home isn't that important, while others blame a lack of time for not doing the cleaning and tasks. However, every member of the household should be aware of the many advantages that come with keeping a clean home beyond its superficial aesthetic value. With that in mind, here are a few reasons why you and your family should make cleaning the house a high priority.

Mess Equals Stress

Do you ever find yourself awake in the middle of the night feeling overwhelmed by the amount of stuff you have to deal with? An unmanageable amount of laundry or an endless accumulation of clutter can cause unnecessary stress. Plus letting it accumulate only means that when you do come to tackle the mess, it's going to take even longer to manage. Instead, consider how much more peaceful it will be to prepare meals in a kitchen that isn't littered with dirty dishes or to sleep in a room where the floor isn't buried under a mountain of filthy laundry. Break the tasks down into smaller, more manageable tasks and if there is more than one of you in the home, don't be afraid to delegate. If everyone stays on top of their own smaller tasks, everyone can feel less stressed! When you take the time to clean up the clutter, you'll find that your stress levels drop.

You’ll Be More Productive

Having a lot of stuff around the house can be a big distraction. Not only is it hard to concentrate on your work when your desk is full of papers, but a messy home can also make you less productive. I work from home and if I can see that the hoovering needs to be done or I know there is a pile of dishes looming in the kitchen, I simply cannot fully focus until it is done.

Keeping your home clean and organised can help you concentrate and focus better because it means you can fully focus on the task in hand rather than having niggling thoughts about mess or housework that needs to be done. You'll be able to get more done in less time, and the mess around you will be less likely to get in the way. You could always motivate yourself by reminding yourself that you can use the time you save to work on projects or enjoy your hobbies. Plus, you can make sure your spare time is more organised too; if you collect records, you’ll spend less time searching and more time listening if you have a bespoke vinyl storage solution, for example.

You’ll Be Healthier

Your health, as well as the health of your loved ones, is paramount. Although there is no fool proof method of preventing illness, there are actions you can take to lessen the likelihood of contracting a particular disease. Keeping your home, the place you live in and spend most of your spare time in, clean and safe for your family is one example. The reason for this is that if you don't clean your house, you aren't sterilising it, which increases the danger of disease for everyone living there. Plus, clutter can be harbouring and hiding harmful secrets such as signs of pests of mould on walls etc that cannot be seen behind clutter, remember mold likes dark, damp places!

Moreover, dust is a common trigger for a wide range of respiratory illnesses, including the common cold, the flu, asthma attacks, chronic coughing, and other forms of allergies. Minimising and even eliminating dust build-up in the home is one way to avoid this. Therefore, keeping your home clean and tidy on a consistent basis is crucial to your family's health and cleanliness.

Whilst none of us really enjoy the thought of tackling the housework it really can be so beneficial to stay on top of it, for both our mind and physical health. By breaking it down into small, manageable daily tasks, delegating and ensuring you stay on top of the daily tasks the cleaning can quickly become something that is done quickly and easily each day rather than being a mammoth task when left. '

If you really feel like you are struggling to keep on top of it all, perhaps you are alone or work long hours, etc then you could always consider hiring a cleaner. This could be for regular cleans or even just monthly cleans to help you keep on top of more difficult, fiddly or time-consuming tasks that you hate. There are lots of cleaners are really reasonable prices so it's worth searching in your local area if you are struggling.
