Science Mad Chemistry Lab **REVIEW & GIVEAWAY**

**AD - Review**

It may be well over 10 years since I left school but I still remember going into science class, seeing the Bunsen burners on the tables and knowing that it was going to be a good lesson. I mean what teenagers doesn't love the idea of burning stuff, making chemical reactions and maybe a few foam explosions in the process!?

James is 10 now and had recently started taking a keen interest in science so I knew a good science kit would make a great gift this Christmas. So when we were kindly offered the chance to try out the Science Mad Chemistry Lab from Trends Toys UK I couldn't wait to see how James would get on.

The set is aimed at children aged 10+ and contains everything you need to try out over 80 fun experiments (although you will need some household items to complete some experiments). It is perfect for children aged 10+ who are starting to show a keen interest in science or how things work!

The set contains 10 different chemicals as well as two different shaped glass containers, a methylated spirit burner, two test tubes and test tube holder, safety goggles, measuring spoons and stirrers. There is also a very detailed instruction booklet which not only explains about all of the products within the set but also shows you how to complete lots of experiments with the items in the set.

I remember having a set a bit like this when I was a kid, although definitely not as cool as this! I would spend ages seeing what reactions I could get from mixing different chemicals etc and it really sparked by interest for science so these kits are not only fun but a great STEM set and educational tool too.

The equipment within the set feels like good quality, even the containers and stirrers are made from glass. James was most excited that it came with a real burner which meant he could try out experiments with heat too. It is worth noting that, whilst most things you need are including in the kit, you will need to purchase some Methylated spirits yourself for the burner. We found this is actually quite readily available from most large supermarkets etc so easy to find but it might be worth buying some in advance if you are buying this as a Christmas gift!

Since the set does contain chemicals and a methylated burner it does require some degree of adult supervision when in use. Although if you are anything like me you will be having so much fun it doesn't even feel like supervising anyway!

Plus when supervising, asking questions whilst carrying out the experiments is a great way to expand their knowledge and understanding too. Things like asking your child to predict what might happen before they add a chemical, what might happen if they heated the chemical up, or drawing what they think might happen.

The set comes with 10 different chemicals and the instruction booklet explains more about these chemicals as well as how to use them in experiments etc. Whilst the tubs look quite bit when you open them you will find that they aren't very full which we thought was a little disappointing. However we quickly discovered you need very little of each chemical to do each experiments so it does actually stretch quite far.

The instructions included within this set are really important as they contain all of the information you need as well as detailed instructions on carrying out each experiments so its really important to keep this safe.

For each experiment the manual tells you what chemicals and equipment you will need as well as east to follow instructions. James liked the fact the manual also had some handy images inside to show him what to do which made it much easier to follow. The instruction booklet also goes into much more detail about each chemical included in the set as well as any dangers in my pose.

Over all we have loved trying out this set and don't really have any negatives to say about it at all! It is lots of fun and a great gift for slightly older children (who I think are definitely harder to buy for!). It is fun, educational and a great way to expand their science knowledge in a way even they will love learning.

The Science Mad Chemistry Lab is priced at £29.99 and available from Smyths, Very and Littlewoods as well as online via Amazon.
