Ideas and inspiration for Mother’s Day

**Collaborative Post**

Now that January is over (why does it always feel like it lasts about 3 months?!) we can concentrate on all the lovely celebrations coming up this year including Mother’s Day! Falling on 15th March 2026,  you might want to start thinking about what to get the mums in your life and the best way to do that is think about what would genuinely make her smile. It doesn't have to cost lots of be a big grand gesture, most mums will want thoughtful over cost! Instead of relying on the same ideas you’ve used before, look at the little moments that define your relationship with her.

Maybe she lights up when you bring her a cup of tea, or she relaxes the second she steps outside for some fresh air. Perhaps you have a photo of you both that she loves or a salon she has always wanted to visit? Those small clues help you shape a day that feels personal rather than predictable.

Plan activities she’ll love

Gifting an activity is a great idea, as it means you can not only gift her an experience she will love and enjoy but also spend time with her doing it! Choosing activities you can do together can help build your bond, whilst treating her to an experience tailored to her rather than a generic gift from the shelf. If she enjoys being outside, you could take her on a scenic walk somewhere different , then maybe for a nice lunch or afternoon tea afterward to warm up. You both get fresh air, and she gets a change of scenery that feels refreshing. If she prefers slow, cosy days, you might make her favourite breakfast or brunch and sit together without rushing, maybe even get her new pjs or fluffy socks she can wear at the same time.

Think about what helps her unwind. For example, if she rarely has time for herself, you could arrange an at-home pamper evening with her favourite film queued up. These small plans feel meaningful because you tailor them to the rhythm of her day instead of squeezing her into a schedule that doesn’t suit her.

Choose a personal gift

A thoughtful gift doesn’t need to be complicated. When you choose something that reflects her tastes, she feels genuinely appreciated. If she enjoys fresh blooms, a bouquet of Mother’s Day flowers can brighten her space and lift her mood for the week ahead. Think about colours she likes or scents she often comments on, so the gift feels chosen rather than grabbed at the last minute.

You can also create something personal, such as printing a favourite photo or assembling a small bundle of things she loves into a hamper, perhaps a new book by an author she follows, her favourite tea, or a skincare item she always forgets to buy for herself. Pairing these items with a handwritten note explains why you chose them and adds a layer of warmth that shop-bought gifts sometimes lack. Personalised gifts are always a lovely idea as it shows you have put thought into it, and it's something a mum will likely treasure for a very long time.

Create a memorable day

A memorable day doesn’t rely on expensive plans. You make it special by staying present. Put your phone away for a while, ask her about things she’s been excited about recently, and give her space to talk without feeling rushed. If she enjoys surprises, you could prepare a simple dessert or bring out an old family photo album to spark shared memories. If you can why not get the whole family together for a special treat? You could all enjoy a meal together or an evening of games and a glass of wine, remember think about what mum would like and go with that.

If you want to add structure, you could end the day with something you both look forward to - a home-cooked dinner, a TV show you watch together, running her a relaxing candle lit bath or even a relaxed board game. Whatever you choose and whatever you decide to do on the day, just make sure your mum is the centre of it and you can't go wrong!
