Teaching Your Kids to Understand and Respect School Rules

**Advertisement Feature**

Teaching children to be respectful is important, both at home and in the classroom. In order for your child to enjoy school to its full potential, succeed academically and develop important social skills, they must understand how to respect school rules, as well as other people to make school an enjoyable place for everyone who attends.

To help your child understand why respect and rules are so important in the school environment and why they should do their best to follow school rules, here is some great advice from The Falcons Pre-Preparatory School for Boys

The first step towards helping a child learn how to be respectful is to ensure that they understand the meaning of respect. Do they know the difference between respectful and disrespectful behaviour? It is important to be a good role model for your child and demonstrate respectful behaviour, both in public and at home. You should also try to avoid any rule breaking whilst your children are present! If you break the rules, they will believe they can too.

If your child’s school has a set of rules displayed on their website, it is a good idea to print this off for your child to read. Discuss these rules with your child and ensure that they understand why each one is important. The majority of school rules are created to ensure that all students and staff are safe, happy and united as a team such as wearing a uniform and speaking to everyone kindly. Talking about why the rules are in place and the benefits of them can often help children really understand the importance of following them too.

Some of the most important school rules to stress to your child are to listen to the teacher and always be kind and helpful to others. Teach your children to value other people’s ideas and opinions and treat others as they wish to be treated themselves.

School rules often include instructions on how to respect school property and the environment. This means never causing damage to school property and always using rubbish or recycling bins to dispose of waste. It is crucial that all students take pride in their school environment and want to play a part in keeping it safe and clean. We all want our children to enjoy their time at school and the opportunities it offers and so it is really important we teach our children about respecting the property so it can be enjoyed by everyone.

Finally, you should encourage your children to value their own learning and success. They can demonstrate this by being on time to school, working to the best of their ability, completing homework and being polite to their teachers. This will enable a much more enjoyable, smoother school journey with less stress and worry for everyone.
